2014 ACCORDING TO DJ BARELY LEGAL

Outside of holding the accolade for the world’s most compact DJ, Chloe Robinson aka DJ Barely Legal represents a generation of fresh blood behind the current revival of UK garage and Grime. Raised on 90’s garage from birth, her eclectic sound showcases a DJ Oneman level of genre-bending that gets any crowd on maximum gun fingers. She’s constantly churning out big mixes for the likes of SB.TV and BBC 1Xtra that span all shades of old school garage, grime, DnB, hip hop and everything in between.

After gaining traction through her Daily Dose mixes for Mistajam’s show, 2013 saw her catch the attention of bass deity Four Tet and playing her first ever Warehouse Project. In 2014, she has gone on to become a Fabric mainstay, play Outlook Festival for the third year running and much, much more. Ahead of her set at Fabric this Friday we take a look back at a year in the life of DJ Barely Legal as she talks us through her favourite sets of 2014. The only way is up for this pint-size, Adidas-clad, 2-step champion.

APE AT THE ALBERT HALL, MANCHESTER - MARCH
"This event was created in conjunction with Warehouse Project and held at the Albert Hall in Manchester which is such a beautiful building - definitely worth checking out! I was on at the same time as Annie Mac but still I had the room packed out and thoroughly enjoyed every minute!"

HORIZON FESTIVAL, BULGARIA - MARCH
"This was my first experience of a snow festival and what a bonus to be able to DJ at it too! My favourite slot was a daytime outdoors set playing to the snowboarders at the top of the mountain! My hands were about to drop off due to the cold but it was great vibes. The state I was in when I went skiing for the first time, I was lucky not to come away with an injury, not sensible. Advice: Don't ski if you're still awake from the day before."

FIELD DAY, LONDON - JUNE
"I played a fairly early set on the Red Bull stage which I shared with some fantastic acts including Lunice, Ryan Hemsworth and Evian Christ. The sun was out, all my friends came down, it was just a really fun day and great set to play in general! I'm already looking forward to Field Day next year."

OUTLOOK FESTIVAL, CROATIA - SEPTEMBER
"At the last minute I got asked by Newham Generals to play their boat party which was sick. Having Newham Generals spit on your set at a boat party in Croatia during sunset with a boat packed out with people going mad was memorable to say the least!"

APE VS RAM JAM WAREHOUSE PROJECT, MANCHESTER - OCTOBER
"I played the closing set at APE vs Ram Jam WHP this year. WHP put on some of the best parties going in the UK in my opinion so I was absolutely honoured to be asked to play for the second time!"

FABRIC 15TH BRITHDAY, LONDON - OCTOBER
"What an honour to celebrate the 15th birthday of such a premier club. Playing in room 1 with two acts I rate so highly, Loefah and Four Tet, was amazing. I was there from start till finish for this night and had a lovely time!"

IN:MOTION BLAST HALLOWE'EN CARNIVAL OF THE DEAD, BRISTOL - OCTOBER
"This Halloween I played at Motion Bristol for the first time. If you'd of seen the killer of a line up it was inevitable this was going to be a good night. It was topped off by the Kurupt FM boys unexpectedly jumping on my set. Fair to say it was going off!"

CHIBUKU WITH HANNAH WANTS, BONDAX & FRIENDS, LIVERPOOL - NOVEMBER
"I played my first ever Chibuku this year in the Theatre room of the Liverpool Arts Club right after Hannah Wants. As I was sharing the line up with a number of big house acts, I had to tailor my set to a different kind of audience than I’m used to playing to but it still went off! Was an absolute blast."

Catch Barely Legal playing at Fabric this Friday, 19th of December. The huge night sees Chloe sharing the stage with Boy Better Know legends Skepta and JME alongside a grime DJ A-team featuring Preditah, Logan Sama and Joker. If that wasn’t enough, Room 2 presents garage godfather DJ EZ whilst Room 3 hosts Rompa’s Reggae Shack Xmas Party. Advance tickets are sold out but more will be available on the door.
